Each one takes ages to do, so I have decide to go for a July launch in London at the AFAS exhibition at the Mall Galleries. It will be slip cast in Parian ware (the French once did a version of it which is explained here though the English were equal if not better at it! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis-Simon_Boizot)

I have done a portrait using this exquisite material. This one, my first double figure with animal, if it works, will spore a few more from the Daphnis/Chloe story. I think the reason that this material was abandoned in the 1920 was the cost in skilled "person" hours. It really is time consuming hence my lack of e communication since Christmas!!

Background

"The Music Lesson"
Daphnis is teaching Chloe to play the pan pipes. Daphnis, being very shy about showing too much affection in case he is rejected, snatches the pipe back to kiss them where her lips have been. She pinches him above the hip (as in the Laocoon) her fingers pressing into his skin (as Bernini's Pluto and Proserpina), their knees touch and, no doubt a heart or two will "flutter". Payne (Snaffles) and Lionel Edwards. Lionel Edwards said of him “no one can, or ever could, paint a horse in action better than Gilbert could.” His style is an impressionistic one and his broad direct strokes enabled him to capture movement and action with success in any medium. His draughtsmanship was superbly disciplined. He probably excelled more than any other artist in portraying polo successfully and was a master at depicting speed. He worked in oil, charcoal, watercolor and pastel and frequently combined the latter three media.

Roberthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00533678970029159873noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-963761338215143646.post-86609594945069551742007-03-17T05:32:00.000-07:002007-03-22T14:21:46.643-07:00Saved 1

Mr Glenn's weekly epistles are sometimes very thought provoking and this week's is one of them.

I am always short of clay to work with and nearly took this little head apart for something else.

His advice persuaded me otherwise so I thought I would save it and cast it as another work study.
